Born in China, Dr. Yiding Niu-Giecold embarked on her musical odyssey at a tender age of 3, guided by a family friendship with Lang Lang, a renowned pianist who nurtured her innate musical talent. Her exceptional abilities soon drew the attention of pianist Constance Keene, securing her a scholarship at the Manhattan School of Music.
At the age of 16, she triumphed in the Steinway Society Piano Competition, catapulting her into the world of virtuoso pianists. Notably, she was invited to tour China with the Ureuk Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Christopher J. Lee, which marked her international debut.
Dr. Niu-Giecold graced illustrious stages like Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center, refining her craft at The Juilliard School, where she earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees under mentors Yoheved Kaplinsky and Matti Raekallio.
Beyond the spotlight, she remains dedicated to community outreach, bringing the joy of music to healthcare settings in New York City. As an educator, she imparts her expertise at Stony Brook University, nurturing the next generation of musicians.
